Full Course Description

This trip will give students the experience of being immersed in Italian culture with an emphasis on art, architecture and cuisine. We will visit the great art collections of the Vatican, the Uffizi and the Academia, and see the cathedrals of Rome, Florence and Siena. The cultural sites we will experience include the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, the Pantheon, the Forum Romanum, and the Colosseum in Rome; the Duomo, Ponte Vechio and Chiesa di Santa Croce in Florence; and the Basilica di San Domenico in Siena. In the village of Camaiore we will work with master artists to produce paintings using the traditional method of egg tempera (we will use farm eggs and will be shown how to combine them with pigments to create our own egg tempera mediums.) Our cooking experiences will include making pizzas with a pizzaiolo in Rome, and learning to prepare traditional regional meals in Camaiore.
